window shutters: wood or vinyl?

Although wood window shutters can vastly increase the perceived value of your house, they require considerable time and labor to sand, prime and paint. Here is an alternative: good olde vinyl shutters! =) These are thicker and heavier overall and some even simulate the subtle nuances of natural wood shutters, from the texture of the woodgrain to realistic formed edges and corners. If you want to see various types of shutters, just go to LarsonShutter.com .. Hope you find something!

my bed =)

I LOVE BEDS! I truly do! If there’s one thing I’m willing to spend on, it would be in buying beds, mattress and gorgeous beddings. The photos above are pictures of my Princess Daybed, pretty huh? =) I had it painted in white with pink accents. The beddings are of course pink, as well as most of my stuff toys. Though I love this bed of mine, I long for wooden beds. They seem so sturdy and long-lasting, and they exude that classy mature style that I’m favoring now. One type I really like is the pine beds. Whether finished in dark or light, pine beds look sturdy and classy at the same time.

decorating Papa's office

The basement is nearly finished and Papa’s “office” is looking quite beautiful with its wood cabinets and ceiling accents. Not to mention one wall segment just contains windows – the room is awash with sunlight! Nice! =) So now that construction is nearly over, it’s time to shop for office furniture! Of course, the furniture should be made of wood to match the office, and it should look manly and imposing to fit Papa. But for his chairs, I think he should go for leather office chairs for the luxury and oomph factor. Hehe! =)

buying a new vacuum cleaner?

VacuumcleanerYou should try the new HEPA vacuum cleaners especially if there are those who suffer allergies in your home. These vacuum cleaners have been tested for particle emissions, as well as power, dependability, and ease of use. Brands such as Miele, Bosch, Electrolux and Sebo all make excellent HEPA vacuum cleaners so if you gave a favorite manufacturer among them, just go visit their sites. Sanitaire even has a pink one (pictured at right), oh yeah! Hehe!

secure your home now!

With all the home burglaries happening these days, it really pays if you secure your home. How? By installing the latest alarm system monitoring out there. It's not enough that you install a gadget, you should have it professionally monitored 24 hours a day. And SafeMart might be able to do that for you without lengthy contracts. Interested? Then follow the link! =)

looking for classy faucets?

DanzefaucetThen Danze faucets might be for you! They have bath faucets, kitchen faucets and faucets for the entertainment areas. Danze has over 1,000 unique designs for you to choose from. They have everything from sleek to ornate to retro with a twist. For sure, there's a Danze faucet that would fit your personal style! My fave is the one pictured at left, love the sleek minimalist design! =)

badly need a heater!

Up here in our home nestled in the mountains, the temperature is cold even during daytime. An advantage, really, especially during hot summer days. But now, with the onset of Christmas, everything just got colder and wetter. What with everyday rain Heatershowers accompanied with gusty wind! Brrr! During evenings, it’s a common sight to see me bundled with a thick blanket, hehe =) The cold situation got me thinking, what if we had a fireplace? Or just even a heater? Mmm, our home would be toasty and warm! As for heaters, I’ve heard of those running on natural gas (see photo at left) and propane. In rich homes, they even have gas garage heaters! Yes, they even have heaters in their garage, as if someone lives there, lol! In our case, one heater in the center of our home will do. And I think I’ll go for a natural gas type. Cheaper and greener!

good morning!

You know what greeted me first thing today? MAILS! We got loads of mail but not the “good news” kind of mails but utility bills. Sigh! Hehe! The light, water and phone companies never fail to send us one despite us not having any mailboxes. They just tuck the bills between the grills of our gate. The big question: what if it rains?? What will happen to our bills then? Water-sogged and hopefully invalid? How we wish, lol! If only we can have the cool set of mailboxes below. Hehe! :-)

I’m a DA!

Nope, I don’t mean Dumbledore’s Army. For me and my boyfriend, DA means “Dragonlance Addict”, lol! Would you believe that when I was in Makati last month, I bought 15 Dragonlance books from Ebay?? Well, actually, Labsie paid up for the books but I was the one who met up with the Ebay sellers =) Anyway, we have over 60 Dragonlance books now and we are currently looking for a nice bookcase (fantasy-themed would be great!) to display our collection.
.
Dragonlance
.
The problem is, every time we look for bookcases in stores, Labsie has a habit of going over to the audio racks area. Gakk! So, until now, our Dragonlance books are stashed all over his bedroom and mine (in our respective houses, of course). Anybody got an idea how to display our book collection in a creative way? Aside from using a bookcase, I mean. Please do share guys! Thanks! =)

the art of moving

When I was young, my family moved a whole lot coz my father was always promoted. And for him, a family MUST stay together that’s why my mother and the rest of us kids, moved along to distant places. I can even remember one time when I just spent half of a school year in one place coz it was time to move again. Heartbreaking for a kid but family comes first, that was the motto. Anyhoo, during these numerous moves, we were assisted by movers (is that how you call the guys that transport your stuff across the country??). If you’re constantly moving, I suggest you take up the services of these companies coz they make your moving a whole lot easier. Just make sure the company you choose is trustworthy. Imagine arriving at your new place and the moving company’s van with all your stuff never arrived.. What a tragedy! For International Movers, you can search the internet for reputable ones. We’ve never moved from one country to another so I have no idea how these guys do things. As for our local movers, we never had a problem. Our stuff were always intact and not even one was missing in the several years we’ve hired them =)

gaga over bar stools!

Dsc06775 One of my fave rooms in our home, aside from my pink bedroom, is our kitchen and mini-bar. I love cooking and eating so it just makes sense that the areas where I do these stuff are well-designed. Thus, when we renovated our home last year, I took an active part in designing our kitchen and mini-bar. Of course, in this modern age, design magazines are out and surfing the internet for inspiration and for quality materials is in! And one of the sites that has become my favorite is FurnitureCentral.com where a wide variety of bar stools are available. I love looking at their designs. They have wood bar stools, aluminum, wood/metal combo bar stools, Indoor/Outdoor, contemporary bar stools and more! w00t! =)
.
Why am I going gaga over bar stools? Because they are the focal point of your bar! The bar stool can be a conversation piece, the item that attracts your guests toward the bar, or be the comfort zone in your otherwise chaotic home. That's our white metal bar stools above. Classic huh? =) Anyway, FurnitureCentral.com is having a holiday sale right now. You can save 10% for orders above $100 and 20%  for orders above $200. So if you're redecorating your bar this Christmas, do give them a visit!

garage!

Garagefloor
.
We still don't have a permanent garage up to now. That's one of my parents' next project as part of our home renovations (going on nearly 2 years already, ackk!). Mama has been asking for suggestions on designing the garage, but I'm stumped. Garage-making is something I'm not interested in, sorry Ma! The only thing I can advise is NOT to use light-colored garage floors as pictured above. I felt it would dirty up so fast and would require constant cleaning. Dark-colored or black garage flooring, on the other hand, would hide the dirt and mucky stuff. No cleaning required! Hah! I wish, hehe =)

Christmas décor is up!

My mom is a dutiful housemaker and she never fails to decorate our home during holidays. Also, she’d redecorate and rearrange our stuff quarterly or as the mood arise. Hehe! Yesterday and today, she put up our Christmas decorations. The requisite Christmas tree is there, vases were filled with merry flowers, covers replaced with Christmas-themed ones, etc, etc. The only dilemma: should we get a designer upholstery fabric, in Christmas colors of course, to replace our current one? Mama loves pink (now you know where I got my pink fetish from, hehe) and last Christmas, our holiday color motif was pink and silver. There was no problem reusing the new stuff we bought as pink and silver are very generic. However, this year, Mama went with the traditional red and green Christmas colors. I felt that if we would buy new upholstery fabric in those colors, it wouldn’t be much of a use once the holiday season is over. It would be such a waste but Mama doesn’t think so! Hmmm, decorating dilemmas are so hard to resolve.. Who will win? Stay tuned! Lol!

Family Christmas List!

My mother has been longing to have a new refrigerator, and we finally got a new one yesterday. It’s a no-frost BUT energy-saving ref from Samsung, and hopefully now big enough to handle our family’s food storage needs =) So that’s one off our family’s 2007 “Christmas list”. Next on the line is a sony 40 inch LCD TV, or even better, a flatscreen TV if the family budget allows it. Hehe! I want the new TV in metallic gray color so as to complement our ref which is placed in our bar area. The bar is also where we’re planning to put our upcoming TV -- eating, drinking and watching TV with your family in one area -- what could be better than that? =)

feel the rain!

Last weekend, I was a beach bum at Hof Gorei Resort in Kaputian, Samal. I had a great time looking for live rocks in the sea and swimming lazily in their infinity pool. The place was great! Everybody was so accommodating and all, even the owner herself! I really had a fun weekend so watch out for my blog post about it – coming soon! =) Anyway, one thing I noticed in Hof Gorei Resort is the preponderance of showers even by the pathways.
.
There was a shower by the beach gate, a shower by the bar, a shower by the pool, a shower by the huts – I tell you, the showers where everywhere! Also I noticed that they have different kinds of  shower heads. Some were so unlike the ones we use at home, or even at the hotels. The one kind I love though was the rain/rainfall shower head. The head is real big and round, and when water gushes out of it, it is as if it’s raining! Way cool! I tried it after a dip in the beach, and man, I feel the rain! It was awesome! I hope it’s not too expensive coz I’m planning to buy one for an outdoor shower here at home =) Here’s a sample photo of a rainfall shower head:

chandeliers, anyone?

If you love chandeliers and fancy lighting fixtures, you have to go and visit Seagull Lighting. Believe it or not, but they have been in the business of making indoor and outdoor lighting for 85 years! If their products aren’t that good, would they last this long? I don’t think so! Aside from beautiful chandeliers, Seagull Lighting also creates wall sconces, pendant lighting, hanging lanterns, landscape lighting, and many more. So, if ever you need high quality, innovative, decorative, or functional indoor lighting and outdoor lighting, please drop by their online store. Who knows, they might have what you’re looking for!

bar stools galore!

Thus, when we renovated our home last year, I took an active part in designing our kitchen and mini-bar. And one of the sites that has become my favorite is QualityBarStools.com where a wide variety of bar stools are available. I love looking at their designs. Curious already? Then go visit QualityBarStools.com! Their bar stools are under discount pricing and ship for free in the US for orders $500. Nice huh?? And if you’re afraid of doing online shopping, fret not because their site uses secure Yahoo Store platform. I’m loving this site already! Next time we will renovate our home, I’d definitely buy our bar stools here. Below are few of their numerous bar stools. Mmm, eye candy!!

Me want Portable DVD player!

Yeah, sorry for the baby talk title. Me just watched a kiddie movie and found it sooo cute, lol! Man, I’m regressing. Hehe! Anyway, it was cold today and I was like, man, Christmas is just around the corner! The cold mountain air is a hint of the Christmas blast about to hit our home anytime soon. Brrr! I’m glad I finished my Christmas list already. By the time I’ll go to Manila late this month, I’ll have an easy time shopping. For those not sure what to give me this Christmas (that’s mean you Labsie and my bros, lol), here’s a little list. Hehe! First off my list is a portable DVD player. It can be any brand but a great brand like Sony (expensive! mmm!) would be good. Again, a portable 10 inch DVD player okay? Hehe! Second would be a wifi card for my laptop. That would just cost around P2500, so affordable right? *wink* Last would be cold hard cash. Preferably not less than the wifi card value. Hehe! Demanding?? =) So bros, save up for me! Kaw din Labs, hehehehe! =)

we need a new ref!

Mama left for Manila today so that meant we went grocery shopping yesterday to stock up our fridge with food till her next return. Unfortunately, our ref’s space isn’t enough to fit all our food anymore. So my mom finally decided to get a new ref, and she wants the double door type with at least 19 cubic feet of space. Me, I just want a ref that is wifi-ready and with AI (artificial intelligence) to warn us of spoiling food and to tell us what’s lacking. Hehe! How’s that for high-tech? =) Anyway, as per my habit, I searched the internet for quality refs and most searches showed Maytag Refrigerators. Apparently this brand has been around for so long and known for its sturdiness. I found a nice-looking ref with 19 cu. ft. of space in their inventory which fits Mama’s criteria. The ref’s price is affordable too. Now what’s left is finding a retailer near us that sells Maytag products. Time to search in Krillion so tata for now!
.
P.S. Krillion.com is a search website that delivers local search results that combine very specific product information with very specific locality information. Meaning, if you want to buy what you searched for online, Krillion will tell you the nearest shop where you can buy the product in your area. Very helpful!

i want a garage!

Unlike most houses, we don't have a garage. Our neighbor has three garages, one for each of his cars -- one car for regular use, one vintage car, and one sports car. w00t! For some reason, while we were renovating our home, we completely forgot to plan for a garage. Must be because we've been parking our cars outside (and exposed to the elements) for a long time now. So, what do we need a garage for right?? Still, I want one! Complete with storage bins and cabinets and lockers. I want it to be my organizing area for everything! =)

flag cases

A friend recently told me he needed flag cases for the old flags he found in their ancestral home in the province. I told him I haven’t heard of flag cases before. I mean, who did? I’m sure you didn’t too, lol! So, as usual, I searched the internet for flag cases and look what I found! Gorgeous woodcraft huh?

Apparently, making flag cases and display cabinets or stands is a big business in the woodcraft industry. In one site I browsed, the PotomacDisplay.com, they have fine heirloom-quality flag cases made of walnut, cherry or oak like the ones in the photo above. Also, their flag cases come in a variety of styles, from traditional triangular flag cases with a glass front and wooden frame to flag-case-and-shadow-box combinations. Also, the said website is offering FREE SHIPPING and FREE ENGRAVING on several of their flag cases for a limited time! So I wasted no time telling my friend about the great offer in PotomacDisplay.com and he’s now awaiting his purchase. Can’t wait to see his flag cases on display!

basement plans

I posted awhile back that our basement is nearing completion, and that half of it would be my father's "office". The other half we planned to make the family's recreation room. We are planning to put up a home theater system with the widest flatscreen TV we can afford. Hehe! It was my mother's dream to have a really big TV screen. Perhaps to aid her and Papa's failing eyes while watching TV, lol =) Anyway, just imagine watching TV shows with screen this WIDE --
65inchtv2
WOW!!! The TV is even bigger than me, lol! If I were watching a travel show featuring an exotic place, with the screen this big, I know I'd feel that I'm in the exotic place too. Damn, it's like virtual reality man! Hehe!

another post about NY real estate!

You must think I'm addicted to anything about New York. Well, I am! Hehe! You see, my boyfriend's aunt lives and works in New York. And we have this dream that someday we'll visit her, and maybe settle down in NY. So, as early as now, we're looking for real estate finds. I even found an up&coming affordable area in Manhattan. And now, I found about Long Island. That's where it is geographically:
.
Longisland
.
And particularly, I found out about Nassau County NY real estate. Nassau County is the one nearest to New York. So if you wanna breathe the NY vibe but cannot afford the lifestyle there, then maybe, Nassau County maybe for you. If you're interested, check out the available homes and land tracts here. Happy house-hunting! =)

more about real estate

Yesterday, I blogged about buying an affordable piece of real estate in Manhattan, New York. But it seems not all of you want to live right smack in the center of all happenings in New York. So for all of you who wants a laidback kind of city, but still very modern, I recommend Arizona. Warning though, you might not like its warm weather. As it is, its being called the Valley of the Sun =) Anyway, prime real estate in Arizona is mostly in the Phoenix area. If you want more affordable homes, you can get a piece of Scottsdale real estate. Scottsdale is internationally known as a premiere tourist destination for the upscale traveler, but also home to over 230,000 residents that work and play in urban and suburban communities. Sounds perfect for those who want a “country feel” but still in the within the area of a bustling town!

decorating Papa’s office!

What do you think of the wood furniture sets in the photos below? Is it classy and manly enough?? =)

house-hunting in NY

We all know how expensive New York real estate is, especially in Manhattan area. But have you heard of that area in Manhattan called Clinton? Yup, just like the name of the former president Bill Clinton! Clinton, New York is near Times’ Square and the neighborhood has a less-than-desirable reputation before. However, the area has drastically changed over the past years, and is becoming one of the better communities to live in New York. Thanks to the real estate developers who have claimed the area as one with potential to be a great community. So if you’re looking for apartments or other real estate to invest in NY, Clinton neighborhood in Manhattan is the place to look for it. Relatively inexpensive, and with a potential to become the next most sought-after community, your investment in Clinton NY real estate will definitely pay you handsomely in the future. And if you need assistance, you can visit the superb company of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate. They specialize in New York real estate so you could be sure they know their way around the hot spots and trendy yet affordable places. Happy house-hunting!

Time to shop for Christmas decors!

I’m so happy I can shop online now, even without a credit card. All I needed was a Paypal account (courtesy of Cherry Rose; thanks so much Che!) and a means of earning dollars online. Most of my income will go to buying Christmas gifts for my family, and for buying Christmas decors for our home. If you need unique Christmas home decoration ideas, I suggest you search the internet. There is so much amazing stuff out there! In the Christmas section of CollectiblesToday.com alone, I found this stunning Santa Claus figurine with the Christmas village creatively carved in his red suit. Loved it so much! =) That’s the figurine below:
.
Xmasdeco1
.
Also in CollectiblesToday.com are tabletop Christmas trees, perfect if you don’t have enough space in your home for the traditional huge pine tree. The website has over 400 Christmas decor items in their Christmas section; every imaginable Christmas home decor need is well covered! I don’t know where to start browsing for their beautiful products! Anyway, aside from the tabletop Christmas trees, they also have collectible Christmas villages, Christmas wreaths, Christmas ornaments and so much more! Below is one of their pretty tabletop Christmas tree that lights up!
.

.
And for me, the best thing in CollectiblesToday.com is their Precious Moments-themed Christmas décor. Yup, believe it or not, they have Precious Moments stuff in Christmas setting! The ornaments looked so cute in pastel colors! My fave decor is below; it’s a Christmas wreath in baby pink and baby blue hues. Love it! =) And I know, its perfect to hang in doors and even walls. If you adore Precious Moments like me, and if you need unique Christmas home decoration ideas, go visit CollectiblesToday.com – they got adorable items at affordable prices! And do hurry! gorgeous pergolas!

OMG! I finally found a real-life pergola! You see, when I was playing the super addicting simulation game The Sims, I had this Chinese-themed pergola. I forgot where I downloaded it from but I adored it so much that I use it in almost all of my Sims’ home, hehe! =) Anyway, time flew and I forgot about the pergola until now…

Yup, that’s a pergola above. Beautiful isn’t it?? It's so sleek! That one is made by AllTexExteriors.com down in Houston. Here are more beautiful Houston pergolas made by this company (click the link). Pergolas add beauty and elegance to your backyard. And there are plenty of colors, end types, and options available in AllTexExteriors.com. They even construct shade covers with beautiful, termite resistant metal or traditional wood. Perfect!

TiVo!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Tivo, that awesome piece of machine that automatically finds and digitally records all of your favorite shows, every time they're on If you haven’t got one, this Christmas season is the best time to buy one at AbtElectronics.com =) This retailer of quality consumer electronics and appliances is different from other online retailers coz they offer you the ability to shop for all your appliance and electronic product needs in one online store. No need to jump from one online store to another. Also they offer FREE tech support. Yup, you read that right, free! And we all love freebies don’t we? Hehe! If you have time, do browse their site. They’ve got loads of appliances and electronics at reasonable prices. Happy shopping! =)

“hi-tech” windows!

We renovated our house last year but until now, we still have some improving left to do in some house areas. Yeah, home improvements can be a bit demanding and it’s definitely an unending process! You finish improving this house area, and you think that this other area should be improved too, and so on and so forth. So, I guess, good luck to us, lol! :p
.
Anyway, I recently found out about UPVC windows and I was attracted to the benefits it offers. First off, this kind of window keeps your home warmer. In windows, the gap between glass in sealed units is filled with air. However, in UPVC windows like the ones that Anglian makes, the air is replaced it with a blend of heavy inert gases. The gases act as an invisible insulating blanket and cut heat loss by as much as 4%. Thus, you have a warmer home, which will help you save on electricity bills especially during cold months. Sounds great! Also, your home will be brighter coz the UPVC windows will increase light entrance by 10%. Can I say hi-tech now?? =) By the way, the company that makes these great windows also installs beautiful conservatories. Love their work!

September 17, 2007

pink beddings! =)

.
Can’t get enough of beddings! Hehe! The truth is, most of my beddings are pink coordinated sets. The photo above is just one set in my pink beddings collection =) Even though I have many pink beddings, I still can’t get enough! But the sets that my mother and I buy are limited with what’s available in the Bed and Bath section of our favorite department stores. Sometimes, I want really edgy designs (but still pink) but there’s nothing to be found in most stores. I mean, pink beddings need not be flowery girly. Just take a look at the bed below, it’s rockin’ pink but definitely not girly! Love it to pieces! =)
.

.
If you’re curious where I found the gorgeous bedsheets above, check out the Teen Girls Bedding section of VisionBeddings.com =) Aside from gorgeous pink teen girls bedspreads, they also have non-pink designs for those who hate pink. Hehe! Even if it’s not pink, I still find their design adorable (see right photo above). The great thing about this design is that you can personalize it! You can opt to enter some text in the box to truly personalize your bedding. Kewl huh?? =) Anyway, if you need teen girls bedding, don’t hesitate to visit VisionBeddings.com ok?

pretty, pretty glass tiles!

***
When we were renovating our home, Mama and I agreed that we would get elegant glass bathroom tile designs for our home's bathrooms. We would do it along a color theme. Of course, our shared bathroom would be pink (as pictured above) while my brothers' would be done in blue. The guest bathrooms were done in white with red, and neutral colors. I loved our tile designs (especially the flowery pink!) but I thought there must be other great designs in the world wide web. So I made an online search and stumbled on the GlassTileStore.com which had a wide variety of glass tiles for bathroom, kitchen and swimming pools. I liked their glass tiles but what I loved were their pebble glass and river rocks glass designs. Absolutely outdoorsy gorgeous! =) And I must say, perfect for the borders of our FUTURE natural freeform swimming pool!

basement problems =(

Our home's basement is not yet finished, and already we have signs of water seepage destruction. Some black stuff are growing in the most moist area in the basement and I don't know any black mold removal solution, or what it is that people use to remove molds. Sigh! The problem in our place is that we live high up in the mountains where its cold and moisture prevails. Add to that the fact that we have a stream running behind our home. It only means one thing-- water is everywhere! And that is bad, and I mean BAD for a basement! We gotta waterproof our basement much better than we already have. You can’t waterproof too much, that I’m sure! Hehe!

September 11, 2007

beddings & stuff

I have earlier blogged about my favorite beds, and now it’s time for beddings! For me, beddings are an integral part of the bedroom mood. If you’re more of a romantic person, shades of red and velvety textures will suit your personality well. Me, anything will do as long as it’s pink, lol! I’m a pink person, what can I say?? =) Anyway, I found out about this cool idea of designing your own beddings. We already have personalized mugs, personalized shirts, etc, etc. How about personalized beddings then? You could use your own amazing photos and have it imprinted in your own bed covers. Now you can truly say you have beddings with one-of-a-kind design!
.
Tropicalbeds
.
In the malls, there is no store that offers this service yet; the stores in the “personalized business” are not yet thinking “big”. You know, big as in bed covers and such! But in the world wide web, as expected, personalized beddings are available. There is really nothing in the world that cannot be found in the internet, hehe! The site that enables you to design your own beddings is Vision Beddings and so far, I'm enamored with their tropical bedding pictured above. I haven’t finished browsing their site yet, and I’m sure I’ll find more great stuff and gift ideas there. So, ciao for now! =)

i want a conservatory!!!

Home improvements are my family’s “specialty”. But don’t think we’re in the business of construction or landscaping or interior design. Lol! It’s just that renovations in our home have been going on for more than a year now. Right now, we are fixing our basement. My father wants one part of it to become his office while the other half will be the recreation space. Basements are pretty boring for me. Light is limited and so is the outside view. My most-wanted addition to our home now is a conservatory. Yup, the photos below are conservatories. Pretty huh??
.
Conservatory
.
Conservatories allow light to go inside the room. Perfect for breakfast and afternoon naps! Sigh.. Just thinking of having our own conservatory makes me delirious with excitement! I’ll definitely tell my parents about it. After all, we still have plenty of space in our lot =)
