I admit I was not an art enthusiast before. I only knew famous paintings like the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci or Spoliarium by Juan Luna. Other works or artists, whether foreign or local, I do not know. Then came a college subject called Humanities. Our teacher was well-known for being a funny guy but strict when it came to arts and humanities lessons. True enough, when we had classes with him, he would snap at students who cannot answer his questions about the arts. But we were happy coz he was a great teacher. I easily learned about Impressionism versus Expressionism, about Realism versus Surrealism, about Abstract, Cubism, Pointilism, and many others. By the way, these are art styles.

Also I learned about art media: watercolors, oil paintings, charcoal sketches, etc. Sir Quiz was really great! Because of him, I learned to appreciate art. I now know of the different works of Wassily Kandinsky (above left), Edvard Munch, Vincent van Gogh (above right), Salvador Dali, and many others. My world expanded because of art. Thank you so much Sir Quiz! Too bad you don’t teach anymore. I’m sure you’ll be able to “convince” more UPMin students to appreciate the arts. Again, thank you! =) And for you guys, enjoy my favorite painting from the surrealist Salvador Dali, The Persistence of Memory –
