Chicago..

A high school friend of mine (hi Jinx!) stayed in Chicago for six months. And she thoroughly enjoyed her experience! Whenever she adds photos of her Chicago outings in her Friendster profile, I would always view it. My fave picture was of a manmade lake near her apartment (see photo below). At first I thought it was taken from a Chicago college or even an Illinois college. Imagine, going to school in such a gorgeous place – definitely conducive to learning! See how happy Jinky and her friends are, lol!

If you are interested in going to college in Chicago, go check out Westwood College – they have four campus locations in the Chicago, namely DuPage campus, Chicago Loop campus, O'Hare Airport campus and River Oaks campus. Students can choose from several degree programs within four advanced institutes: Institute of Design, Institute of Technology, Institute of Business and Institute of Criminal Justice. And for recreation, students can enjoy outdoor stuff like hiking, biking, fishing and kayaking. Love it! =)

Mental Health

A couple of posts back, I shared my wish to pursue further studies online and that my course of choice (if ever) is Health Informatics (IT) coz it will complement my Medicine background and my love for computers =) As I browsed through Capella University’s site, I got interested in their online psychology degree. Psychology is another field I’m interested in, as well as Psychiatry. For me, the human mind is very elusive to all the experiments we’ve done to elucidate how it functions, how it works superbly. There is so much to discover about it, as well as how (and why) people interact the way they do. Mental health is a serious issue for me, and I think a course in Psychology and/or Psychiatry would do me good =)

Capella University

Do an online search for online university and one school name that will keep popping up is that of capella university. I checked their website and I was amazed with the amount of courses they offer! Imagine, they have 104 graduate and undergrad specializations and 15 certificate programs in the fields of business, information technology, education, human services, public health, public safety, and psychology. I’m sure you’d find something that would suit your brain. As for myself, I’ve always wanted to pursue further studies online but I was unsure what online school I should trust with my tuition money. Hehe! And from the courses I saw in Capella University, I’m kinda leaning towards Health Informatics (IT). I feel the course will complement my background in Medicine =) Now all I need is the tuition money, and that should be in dollars baby!

need help with school papers?

Don't fret! Especially if you have extra money stashed somewhere. You can use that to purchase term papers, hehe! And you don't even have to go to Recto, promise! If you don't know what's in Recto, then.. Never mind! Hehe! *evil grin* Anyway, students these days are quite lucky coz there are online companies that offer custom writing services and for a fee, they will make your research papers, term papers, theses, and book reports. So great!!! If I were in college now, I’d definitely use the report writing services offered by these companies. Especially if I'm stuck with gazillions of biology research papers, hehe =)

tutors, anyone?

About two months before the first semester ended, a cousin of mine has been flunking his Math subject. We were all very concerned for him since he was a good student (unlike his brother who's a happy-go-lucky kid). So we all decided that we'd get him a tutor and thus we began sifting through the numerous Math Tutors we know way back. No one qualified, and guess who we ended up with? My best friend who is a licensed engineer who also teaches college subjects. COOL! All in the family huh?? Of course, it would have been better if we got a SCORE tutor. Oh well, maybe next time =)

tutors anyone?

When I’m thinking of my future family, I always muse if I’ll have enough time to guide my children in school matters. You see I’m a doctor (still have to take the board exam though) and as you know, doctors lead very busy professional lives. Often, the family is neglected coz the call of duty cannot be ignored. So, who will guide my kids in their assignments and school projects? Or what if they’ll have a hard time in certain subjects? Sure, my husband will be available (I hope, hehe) but fathers are not really into teaching kids. No offense intended for those exceptional dads who teach =)
.
Currently, I’m thinking of hiring a fulltime tutor if ever the need arise. I want the best for my kids. If I’m not available (and so is their dad), I want someone credible to teach them. Tutors are a dime a dozen, and most use the usual one-on-one teaching methods. But I want something new, something like an Innovative Tutor with tutoring programs that translate to academic improvement. Maybe I’ll find that in Score Learning Centers. To the admin there, see you in the future! I like the thrust and mission of your program. Hope it works with my future precocious children, lol! =)

reminiscin’ college life

Yesterday, me and a high school friend chatted up a storm (via YM) about the latest in our lives (she’s a teacher, I’m a bum), and we also got into reminiscing our college years. We were in different schools (she’s in AdDU, I’m in UPMin) so I was quite surprised that we shared the same horrendous experiences when it came to our academic lives. Hehe! As with me, my HS friend was always rushing to meet deadlines of numerous college essays and projects. She was constantly harassed by engineering works and lab experiments. I totally feel for her! And we have no one to help us with our papers and what-nots coz everyone is busy too. Students these days are quite lucky coz there are online companies that offer custom writing service and will make your research papers, term papers, theses, and book reports (for a fee, of course). Man, we were born too early! Lol! If I were in college now, I’d definitely use the custom writing service offered by these companies =)

studying online

I’ve always wanted to pursue further studies online but I was unsure what online school I should trust with my tuition money. Hehe! So I began my search in student forums and distance learning online communities. One school name that kept popping up was capella university. I checked their website and I was amazed with the amount of courses they offer! Imagine, they have 104 graduate and undergrad specializations and 15 certificate programs in the fields of business, information technology, education, human services, public health, public safety, and psychology. I’m sure you’d find something that would soothe your brain. As for myself, I’m kinda leaning towards Health Informatics (IT). I feel the course will complement my background in Medicine =) Now all I need is the tuition money, and that should be in dollars baby!
.
For more information about distance learning, you can visit http://www.capella.edu or call 1.888.CAPELLA (227-3552). Capella University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

scholarships galore!

If you’re going to college come September 2008, it’s about time you start your search for scholarships. College education is expensive, even if you’re not going to Ivy League schools and such. And most often, parents don’t support their kids anymore unless they really have money to spare or they prioritize education above all. If you’re one of the students hungering to go to college but don’t have the means to do so, then free college scholarships may just be the answer. These freebies came from the U.S. Department of Education, and they have these major Student Financial Assistance (SFA) programs: Federal Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, Consolidation Loans, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs), Federal Work-Study and Federal Perkins Loans. These should keep you happy for awhile! But if you want more, go check Scholarships.com – they got loads of other scholarships to suit your taste and needs. God bless!

lots of stuff to read!!! =)

These are the new magazines and my "new" books that my parents brought from Manila. I say "new" coz these are secondhand books from BookMooch, that great site I blogged about that allows you to get rid of your books and get (mooch) books that you like from other people. Great concept huh?? =) You can read my BookMooch entry here. And you can view their site here. Love it!

i should be a scifi writer! lol

When I was young, about 8-9 years old, I always made up stories in my mind and act it out in real life with whoever who wants to play with me. When I was 10 years old, I discovered the joy of writing. I first wrote mini-love stories and poems, and progressed to writing for my grade school, high school, college and medical school papers. I'm not very active though, I just past stories and articles when inspiration strikes me, or when I'm given a specific task by the editor. But the love for writing never went out of me. And now, I'm writing again. Thanks to internet and blogging!

You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer
Your ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you're from. And while you may have some problems being "normal," you'll have no problems writing sci-fi. Whether it's epic films, important novels, or vivid comics... Your own little universe could leave an important mark on the world!

still on college life :p

Earlier I posted about my college days, and I’m still on a reminiscing mood. Before I got into my college of choice, I had to take an entrance exam. No other stuff to pass, no interviews. Just pass the entrance exam and you’re in! My brother’s situation was different though. Aside from passing the entrance exam, he had to make admission essays. We often joked that his school of choice wants to make sure he speaks and writes in good English grammar. Luckily my brother passed the school’s “stringent” entrance requirements =) Anyway, if you need help writing your application essays, you can visit AdmissionEssays. They do college, MBA and medical school applications. Good luck! =)

college days..

Last night, a college friend of mine visited our home. We chatted up about the latest in our lives (she’s a teacher, I’m a bum), and we also got into reminiscing our college years. We were never really close during college (she’s in Ecology, I’m into Cell Biology) so I was quite surprised that we shared the same horrendous experiences when it came to our academic lives. Hehe! As with me, my college friend was always rushing to meet deadlines of numerous term papers and projects. She was constantly harassed by field works and lab experiments. I totally feel for her! BS Biology in UPMin is one busy course! And we have no one to help us with our papers coz everyone is busy too. Students these days are quite lucky coz there are online companies that creates custom research papers, term papers, essays, theses, and book reports like PaperMasters. Man, I was born too early! Lol! Anyway, I checked out PaperMasters and they guarantee you that their products are plagiarism free and written by native English speakers. Sounds good to me! So if you’re in a tight deadline schedule, visit PaperMasters. They might be able to help you =)

get CISCO certification online!

Both of my brothers have programming backgrounds, and one of them is currently a consultant programmer in Manila. The other is still out there, learning some more stuff in the real world. Hehe! This other one got his Cisco certification training while he was still in Philippine Science High School. He took up programming as one of his elective subjects, and one of the subject’s focus is to pass the online Cisco training. And pass he did! And he never let us forget about it. Hehe! Peace Tots! =) Anyway, if you’re keen on having your own training in programming and networking platforms, visit PrepLogic. They offer online training courses for A+, MCSE, Cisco, and CCNA-- education that is fast, easy and most importantly, cheap!

how effective are tutoring programs?
